The Early Life and Success of Kanye West

Celebrity

Kanye West was born into this world on June 8th, 1977. Today he is a household name in (and outside of) the hip-hop world. He has captured his chunk of the $500 billion annual spending power that hip-hop demographics are able to contribute through revered song production, incredible hit songs, and a penchant for entertainment news attention and media controversy. But how did he get to this level of stardom?

Humble Beginnings

At three years old, Mr. West moved from Atlanta, where he was born, to Chicago. It was here where the acclaimed artist ascended to fame. He started making music in the seventh grade and held tight to a strong work ethic through high school.

After graduating, Mr. West got a scholarship to the American Academy of Art in 1997 but quickly transferred to Chicago State University to pursue an English degree. This also didn’t last long, and as fans know, Mr. West dropped out of college to become Kanye.

The Road To College Dropout

The first album sent Kanye to the top of every ‘must listen’ list in the industry, but his sudden critical acclaim was far from a surprise. For three years after Kanye dropped out of college, he was busy making beats, mastering and mixing songs, and working closely with local Chicago rappers to make music. This all changed when the young and still relatively unknown Chi-town producer was approached by none other than Jay-Z.

Now producing for the Roc-A-Fella Records label, Kanye worked closely with Jay-Z on The Blueprint, essentially securing himself a career as a producer. This didn’t satiate young Kanye’s lust for success as a rapper, however, and after much reluctance on the part of Roc-A-Fella Records, Kanye was signed.

On October 23, 2002, Kanye fell asleep while driving home and got into an accident that nearly claimed his life. His recovery process? Working on a song. Something had awoken within Kanye, and he came to compose his first official mixtape aptly named Get Well Soon. With this release, Kanye announced that he was in the process of writing and recording his first studio album, College Dropout.

Celebrity

Since the release of his first album, Kanye has been the focus of celebrity news and black gossip sites. In part, his control of entertainment news cycles might appear to revolve around ridiculous stunts and blasphemous behavior, but that same off the cuff, reactionary emotion has been present since the day he decided to leave college. Kanye is unapologetically authentic. If this makes him the apple of the entertainment news industry’s eye, then so be it. Not always polite, nor always apparently making good choices, Kanye West certainly did touch the sky. Read this website for more information.
