There is no event quite like having a baby. A new little person has arrived, an addition to the family, a new life. How can anyone hope to convey the joy a new baby brings?
Of course, nothing but the smile on your face does justice to the happiness that comes from delivering a healthy baby, but you sure can try. Besides, you want everyone to know. Family, friends, neighbors, your mailperson, your friends' friends, your family's neighbors, your coworkers, your coworkers' mail people: they should all be as excited as you are, right?
Since going door to door to spread the good news is out of the question, given your shoddy sleep schedule, you will have to settle for a birth announcement. Fortunately you have myriad options, now that technology takes care of most everything, and there are so many forms of media at your fingertips. How will your birth announcement make it from your nursery to your college roommate, three thousand miles away? In the five minutes when Junior goes to sleep, maybe you can give it some thought. Unless, of course, you take those five minutes to catch some Z's yourself.
It is a good idea to give the birth announcement some thought before the big day. Naturally, you and your partner will have dozens of other things on your mind, but it is worth spending a few minutes deciding. Will you send an online notification, perhaps via email? Will you post a blog about it, and make use of your other social networks? Will you send an old-fashioned paper birth announcement? Publishing one in the newspaper can be fun, because then you can cut it out and put it in baby's scrapbook. Making your own and sending it by snail mail to your loved ones can be costly but memorable too. And then, there is always the banner option, if you want everyone who drives by your house to know about your latest development.
A birth announcement is a special thing, so give it some thought. Your new baby is your world, and naturally you want everyone to share the joy. His or her birth announcement does not have to be elaborate or expensive. It only needs to be simple and earnest for others to hear your good news.
