A mobile workforce has become more and more of a reality in the 21st Century. Boundaries no longer exist in todays global economy, and workers are no longer confined to an office or cubicle. With mobile workforce technology, employees can perform their jobs from practically every corner of the planet, if necessary.
Cloud based technology makes a mobile workforce possible. In contrast, LAN based technology is physically limited to the confines of an office and has no application to a mobile workforce. Cloud based technology enables IT departments to maintain control over a mobile workforce; obviously, LAN cannot.
A companys mobile workforce must be able to connect to the network when away from the office. Business would quickly grind to a halt if network connections were suddenly lost. Security is essential!
Imagine the peace of mind of an IT manager who knows that the network is protected from connections by unauthorized users or employees not in compliance with security standards. With mobile workforce control services, firewalls automatically restart and anti virus software and other security patches automatically download whenever remote users start up their laptops.
Mobile workforce visibility services provide cloud based networks with the means to monitor activity at each endpoint (i.e., laptops and handhelds) for increased security and compliance with network policies. Employees may not be so eager to expose their laptops or handhelds to questionable programs and applications if they know they are being monitored.
Unfortunately in todays world, companies need to protect their mobile workforce from business disruptions associated with localized natural disasters, pandemics, extreme weather conditions and terrorist attacks. In Case of Emergency (ICE) mobile workforce services maintain continuity when employees are prevented from leaving their homes or remote locations. Besides securing the network from attack, ICE mobile workforce services enable confined workers to connect with the Internet through a global network of wireless access points.
Finally, we cannot ignore the importance of work life balance to todays workforce. Employees with young children, in particular, and those who prefer not to spend their lives at the office value flexibility in work location. Business continuity is uninterrupted when mobile workforce services allow workers to keep up with their job assignments from home when nursing a sick child or when they themselves are too sick to leave home but can still function from home.
