Home sweet home, there is always something about home that attracts us no matter where in world we are. Log houses are made out of wood which is what makes them special. There is something about wood that makes us feel the way we do about our log houses. There may not be a scientific proof or a psychological reasoning for the same but the mystery that surrounds the manner in which wood and log houses exhale a homely warmth can not be denied. Why do rich and poor alike prefer wooden furniture over any other material including the much stronger metals and less expensive plastics? The reason is simple, it is not just the look and feel of log houses but the sense of homeliness attached to the same. Different type of wood gives out different feelings to different people but there is a type of wood that is perfect for your dream log houses.
There is no denying that log houses are more comfortable and homely than the conventional home being built today. They may be expensive and difficult to put together but log houses are easier to get mortgages. When you apply for a mortgage, the person who looks into the assessment of your property takes a good look at the quality of material and age of the building among other factors before deciding a mortgage value. Log houses are taken for granted to have a better life than conventional ones and are hence favoured by banks and mortgage houses. However, different laws and policies and weather conditions in different states means that this may differ so be advised to check with the locals and local banks about the same. Now, it is not all good and great only, the draw back is that log houses require constant maintenance and attention. Which house does not need to be taken care of or maintained on a regular basis.
If you are still thinking or planning to build log houses, it is advised to get professional help for the same as certain factors that will increase or decrease the age can only be assessed by experienced ones. It is expensive but if not built well it would not last long either. There are two types of log houses that can be built. Hand crafted and milled log houses. True to their name, handcrafted log houses are built the way our ancestors built their houses centuries ago. They first select the right tree, fell it and then cut it into the appropriate size and shape. Such log houses therefore retain the distinct characteristics of the tree or trees they were made out of. Many people prefer this and instead of paint use polish to retain the look. On the other hand, milled log houses are the brain child of the industrial era and are made of wooden planks that are of equal size and shape. Such wooden planks come with an interlocking mechanism which makes these stronger and are therefore better looking as well. Conventional home can also be built to look like log houses with wood siding so that they are not only strong but retain characteristics of a wooden home.
