Today we are able to learn about things from all over the world while sitting in the comfort of our own home. A broad range of knowledge and information can be accessed at any time. Office workers everywhere can stay up to date with the latest sports news during their five minute breaks. A stockbroker in Taiwan can find out how their stocks in New York are doing without having to wait for the buisness section in the paper the next day. We have accelerated our ability to learn about anywhere or anything at anytime and now all that news can come directly to you. Welcome to the next step in information technology, RSS Feeds.
RSS is generally agreed to be an abbreviation for Really Simple Syndication. Think of RSS feeds as customizable newspapers that are delivered right to your browser. As you explore the internet you might find websites that publish information that you are interested in, things that you want to hear more about as they happen. The website might have an RSS feed option that you can register for that will allow you to receive updates from that website. The nice benefit is that you do not have to constantly check the websites to stay up to date, and unlike a newspaper you get to choose who publishes your news. Some websites are so organized with the use of their RSS Feeds that you can receive updates on very specific topics. Do you only want the world news from BBC? Done. Is there a blog that you like to follow? Have their RSS Feed keep you up to date. Any website that updates content should have an RSS Feed that you can access and register to receive information from. There are multiple ways to check the updates on your RSS feeds. Some internet browsers carry the RSS Feeds option, just like a favorites section, that can usually be identified by the little orange tab, or some websites can be customized to display the RSS Feeds you want to follow. Some websites also offer the option of sending the updates to your cellular device so you can be updated anywhere there is phone service. Please keep in mind that having the information sent to your phone will count as a text message and charges from you phone service provider will still apply. So when you need to stay up to date to stay on top let an RSS Feed do the work for you.
