The foremost question on the minds of most up and coming bloggers is "Why should I submit my blog to directories?" Some bloggers will actually submit their blogs to dozens of directories or even more, while others feel that this wouldnt be of much use. Based on my impressions of most web experts opinions however, I have realized favorable results when I submit my blog to a small number of blog directories soon after starting it up.
Some of the more obvious benefits I have gained when I submit my blog to blog directories are the almost immediate backlinks I got to my blog. The result was that my websites became more "attractive" to search engines, which indexed them more readily and in turn caused them to achieve a higher ranking in search engine results pages.
The interesting thing is how much importance search engines place on these links. In most cases, search engines rank pages that have such links higher, since they are generally considered to be more worthy of linking to. This is actually how I got better results when I submit my blog to blog directories. The directory listings themselves dont actually generate more visitors.
There remains some contention with regard to how many directories is the right number to submit my blog to. Some people feel that I should submit my blog to as many as hundreds of blog directories, while others feel that this would be pointless.
As is the norm in the industry, it appears that submission to 10 blog directories or even less is sufficient. While most search engines do favor sites with more links, they do not usually consider links originating from a blog directory as important as links that come from actual blog posts or articles.
The question that this all brings up is how do I find blog directories to submit my blog to? I found that a search for "blog directory" got me several leads in this regard. In fact, many of the better blog directories came in at the top of the search results pages.
I have often run into blog directories that require me to post backlinks or impose certain other requirements. I tend to shy away from those blog directories, and instead I tried to submit my blog to blog directories that were a lot less rigid.
Many of the blog directories I tried out were simple to submit content to. I dont even bother with directories that overcomplicated the process, and opted to submit to those that made it easy for me to submit my blog. This gave me more time to work on my content and generate new links that way.
